A home cinema can be one of the best features for watching movies with family and friends. If you have recently bought a home entertainment system, there are a few things that you need to know before you start. The proper placement of the speakers combined with wiring the system can be confusing, but will ultimately give you the most out of your home cinema. Here are a few tips to get you started.
Measure the room that you are going to be setting up the cinema in. The measurements are going to determine the speaker placement and how far you should move your couch. Measure the length of the room and the width. Make sure that these measurements are correct, but they don't have to be exact.
Unpack your cinema system and organise the parts. For instance, set the bass speakers together, the stereo receiver by itself and separate all of the wires. Decide on where you want the home cinema to go. You will need to set up the home cinema close to your TV and DVD or Blu Ray player. If you have an entertainment center, find a shelf that your home cinema receiver will fit on.
Put the center speaker as close to the center of your room as you can. Connect the speaker wire to the back of the speaker and then thread the wire through the entertainment center into the stereo receiver. Connect the wire to the "Center Speaker" input. Match the black and red wires to the connections on the back of your receiver.
Hook up the front left and right speakers. These are the main speakers that your system will be running through. Take the measurements that you had before and place the speakers equidistantly from the TV based on half of the room's width. For instance, if your room is ten feet wide, place the speakers five feet apart. This will give you the most optimal sound.
Connect the front left and right speakers to the receiver through the wires provided. Make sure that you are connected black-to-black and red-to-red. Set up your subwoofer. The subwoofer should be put between the left and right speakers. Make sure that is in the middle of them. This might be difficult if you have an entertainment center, but make do.
Go to your couch and pull it so the distance from the home cinema is half of the room's length. For instance, if your room is 12 feet long, the distance from your couch to your home cinema should be about 6 feet. Connect the output cable from your stereo receiver to your TV. This could be an HDMI cable or a regular RCA cable. Turn on the TV and change the input to the one designated by your cable. Turn on the home cinema and enjoy.
